As a former Schools Speech and Language Therapist turned Mindfulness Teacher, I am acutely aware of the challenges that most of us face when addressing mental wellbeing in schools. We know that a child's wellbeing underpins their ability to thrive, yet there is an over-whelming lack of time, resources and training to make this a priority.

That is exactly why we created Kind Minds. A simple online portal designed to bridge the gap between the pressures to improve children's mental health and the existing support that is in place for teachers and schools. Created for children aged 2-11, Kind Minds includes our training and an entire curriculum of fully resourced wellbeing lessons, enabling you to bring mindfulness into the daily culture of your classroom.

Perhaps you are an educator who...

Is noticing the rise in children's mental health needs and there is a significant lack of adequate resources and training to help you teach and nurture this in your classroom.

Has children presenting as distracted or emotionally dysregulated and you're not quite sure how to help.

Wants to focus on mental wellbeing but there is little time to prioritise this with a never-ending to-do list.

Recognises the proven benefits of mindfulness for both you and your children, but you feel you don't have the knowledge or resources to put it into practice.

Imagine if you could...

Transform your classroom into a calmer place, while getting your children to actually pay attention using mindfulness.

Learn how to teach mindfulness in fun and engaging ways using our simple 4-step approach: Concentrate, Calm, Connect and Create.

Create a daily culture of kindness by engaging your class in mindful self-compassion practices.

Acquire an entire social-emotional learning curriculum that you can use year after year to nurture the wellbeing of your class.

About the Creator

Hello Educators! I am Laura, creator and author of the Kind Minds Curriculum. I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and Children’s Mindfulness and Yoga Teacher. I am proud to have trained with Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP), the most established provider of mindfulness training and curricula for schools.

The curriculum activities have evolved inside the classrooms of myself, and my sister Kate Boniface, co-founder of The Kindness Curriculum. Kate brings her experience as a mother of 2 and as a Primary Teacher, and our combined educational experience equates to approximately 18 years in total. Our Kindness Curriculum journey began with the sudden loss of our father when we were ages 11 and 13. Knowing the immeasurable benefits that mindfulness has brought to our lives, we reflect on our education and childhood as a missed opportunity for learning these skills. The Kind Minds Curriculum has been created with so much love, and a passion to bring the things that really matter into the primary classroom.

Whether this leads you to pressing that “buy” button, or simply something to keep on the back-burner, I am so happy that you have found this page, and that you can learn a bit more about The Kind Minds Curriculum.

With love and kindness,

Laura x

Is this curriculum and online course right for me?

Kind Minds has been designed for educators/teachers, with the primary intention to implement mindfulness and SEL in classrooms. However all of the curriculum content is transferrable to a variety of educational and therapeutic contexts. For example:

-You might be a yoga teacher/therapist/teaching assistant who wants to develop their mindfulness tool-kit.
-You might be a school SENCo/wellbeing lead looking for a programme to build into your SEL lessons and groups.

If you are interested in implementing Kind Minds throughout your whole school then please visit the Kind Minds for Schools page via our website: https://www.kindness-curriculum.com/school

How do I work through the course content?

Kind Minds is designed to be worked through at your own pace. This is not a live course and all videos are pre-recorded. Our dedicated team (Laura and Kate) will be available to assist with any queries via email and social media.

There is a facebook group for community members to share their experiences and ask questions. Inside module 2 (developing your own mindfulness practice), the suggestion is to put aside 10 minutes of your personal time per day during a fixed period.

How can I implement the curriculum in our weekly school timetable?

We know every teacher experiences time pressures so all of the curriculum lessons (including slides, video-led teaching and resources) are designed as "ready-to-teach".

1. The lessons slot in well during transitions either after break-time or lunch-time play (approx 20 minutes each, with the option to extend to 45 minutes).
2. Many educators that we work with use the Kind Minds lessons as part of their PSHE curriculum.
3. We provide a suggested timeline to implement the lessons throughout the academic year. Alternatively, you have the freedom to select the lesson content that feels best suited to your class, and follow your own schedule.

What age-group is this curriculum/course designed for?

Kind Minds is designed for children aged 2-11. The curriculum includes a separate bank of lessons for early years (ages 2-5) and primary years (ages 5-11). Please keep in mind that whilst a large part of this course is dedicated to the mindfulness and SEL curriculum, modules 1-3 include mental wellbeing professional development videos designed for all educators, regardless of the age-group they teach.

How does this curriculum apply at a whole-school level?

Please note that this course/curriculum (Kind Minds for Educators) is strictly for personal classroom use e.g. single-user purchase. If you are interested in implementing Kind Minds across the whole-school (Kind Minds for Schools) then please visit our schools page via our website: https://www.kindness-curriculum.com/school

The research shows that mindfulness programmes are best implemented when incorporated within the ethos of the whole school, "a combination of bottom-up pioneering work with top down support and resourcing can help embed real change in educational communities" (Hawkins 2017).
